AGCC 2918 – Big Issues & Ideas in Geoscience

AGCC 2018 will be the largest Geoscience event to be held in The Asia Pacific Region since 2012. It features a wide-ranging scientific program and will examine and address current and emerging issues that effect geoscientists and our society. Based around five Technical themes it will cover big issues and ideas concerning energy security options & markets, resource-driven development, Geoscience education & socialisation, emerging technologies, and smoothing the impact of boom/bust commodity cycles

Abstract Submissions open: 14 October 2017

Abstract Deadline: 16 June 2018.

45th IAH Congress

Groundwater and Life : Science and Technology into Action. The IAH Korean National Chapter, Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) and Korean Society of Soil and Groundwater Environment (KoSSGE) are honoured to host the 45th IAH Annual Congress in Daejeon. This will focus on how groundwater science, technology and policy can help ensure all have equal rights for sufficient, safe and affordable water regardless of where they are born and live, or who they are.

The topics to be covered are:
– Life with groundwater: the role of groundwater in human life
– Environmental change and groundwater
– Sustainable groundwater resource & management
– Groundwater & surface water: an integrated view
– Coastal aquifer management
– Groundwater quality & contamination
– Groundwater and energy
– Challenges for the deep geo-environment
– Advanced tools & techniques for hydrogeology
– Groundwater, society & policy

Pre-congress training courses and excursions are currently being planned. Mid-congress excursions are proposed to limestone caves, a national geopark, curative springs, a wetland conservation area and the national groundwater information centre. There wil also be seceral post congress tours for participants to enjoy Korea’s cultural heritage.

Resources for Future Generations 2018 (RFG 2018)

Resources for Future Generations. Resources for Future Generations 2018 (RFG 2018) will be held in Vancouver, BC, on June 16-21, 2018. It is the first international conference dedicated to the availability of resources needed to sustain future generations.

Led by the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), the conference will bring together academia, government and business to tackle the issue of the ever-increasing demand for resources, as well as the changes in the delivery of existing ones.

RFG 2018 will be delivered by the Canadian Federation of Earth Sciences (CFES), the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM), the Geological Association of Canada (GAC), and the Mineralogical Association of Canada (MAC). Along with the support of another 30+ Technical Partners, RFG 2018 will attract a diverse group of Canadian and international stakeholders, with interests related to energy, minerals, water and the earth. More than 5,000 delegates and 120 exhibiting companies from North America and around the world are expected to participate.

Mine Water Solutions Conference 2018

3rd Annual Mine Water Solutions Conference. The Mine Water Solutions 2018 organizing committee and the University of British Columbia are hosting the 3rd Annual Mine Water Solutions Conference (MWS2018) in Vancouver Canada.

Mine Water Solutions 2018 is the third innovative conference that will examine a wide range of water issues stretching through societal, financial, business and technical.  It includes topics like: water as an asset, operational water management and managing water in different climatic settings.

The conference will provide a forum for presentation and discussion about successful practices that enable responsible mining to be undertaken in challenging environments. All aspects of mine water management, including hydrology, hydrogeology, diversion, containment, conservation, minimization of water-quality impacts, seepage interception and treatment may be addressed.
